MARCH: Counting one to ten with The Epic Storm

Since January 2016, I've been so active playing UR Pyromancer Ascension in different modern tournaments  around the metro, and almost forgot that I also need to gird for Grand Prix Chiba. So on March 20th, I decided to start my preparation for the said big event by sleeving those 75 cards again. Preparing many months before the big game is way too early. I know that. Trust me, once you are there, a format that you're so much into, it will bring a different kind excitement you never had. And if that excitement gets over you, this will surely cause your campaign. So in order to avoid that unhappy feeling, especially if you're bringing a storm deck in that high level of competition, it is very important to know the right card combination right off the bat.

Duel for Duals Legacy Tournament
Kicks Engine
Cubao Expo, Quezon City
20 March 2016

RD 1 Lands
Game one, lost this one due to this land destruction combo - Crop Rotation, Wasteland, Life from the Loam and Exploration. For games two and three, a mob of goblin gets there in two swings.

1-0   (2-1)

RD 2 BURG
Games one and three, 18 goblins are better than a team of delver, Vendilion Clique and an active Deathrite Shaman. I lost game two to his ton of counter magic.

2-0   (4-2)
RD 3 DnT
I won games one and three on turn two spell chain into Burning Wish into Tendrils of Agony. Game two, 18 goblins is no match to his Batterskull, Serra Avenger and Phyrexian Revoker.

3-0   (6-3)

Did an intentional draw for RDs 4 and 5.
3-0-2   (6-3-2)

I lost in the quarters to BURG. Game three, despite my repeated cantrips and fetches, no tutor nor wish came to my aid. Vendilion Clique ate all my life points.

At the end of the day, boros burn secured me a ticket for their qualifying leg which will be sometime in April.

A few days after playing from FQ's Sunday event, I checked my calendar and saw this exciting list of MTG legacy and modern tournaments:

March 12 GPT Modern at Madcap
March 13 Regran Open Modern
March 19 Last PC Modern at Madcap
March 20 Legacy at Kick Engines
April 2 Legacy at ARJ

With those positive results, I planned to perdure on the same list for the remaining  modern contests.

I dropped from the event and went home empty handed. To those burn players reading this, I hope you will not be discouraged by my results. I still believe that burn is still in the position to win.
Well, I'll just do better next month.
Until then, thanks for reading!

March: unable to count to 20 with Red & Blue (modern)

January and February 2016 yielded positive results for UR Pyromancer Storm. Let me check if it will give the same result for this month. Let me begin my hunt on the first FNM of March 2016.

FNM at Neutral Grounds
Glorietta, Makati
March 4th

Two of the ten registered players were my teammates. Sadly, I got paired against one of them.

RD 1 DnT
I knew what he is on, and I am pretty sure he does the same. I lose miserably because he had all the necessary hatebears (Dryad Militant, Thalia GoT and Leonin Arbiter) on his table to make my storm life unlivable. I wish him luck for the remaining games.

out: 1 Thought Scour, 2 Faithless Looting, 1 Past in Flames, 1 Pyromancer Ascension, 1 Gitaxian Probe
in: 4 Lightning Bolt, 2 Echoing Truth

0-1   (0-2)

RD 2 Eldrazi
My lone win came at the expense of the eldrazi. Game one, a turn five win thanks to an online Pyromancer Ascension. Game two, a turn three win thanks to that discount giving goblin.

out: 1 Thought Scour, 1 Faithless Looting, 1 Gitaxian Probe
in: 3 Blood Moon

1-1   (2-2)

RD 3 Jund
The game went in a deciding one in which he won by shredding my hand with disruptions and his Scavenging Ooze ate all the key cards in the graveyard.

out: 1 Thought Scour, 2 Faithless Looting, 1 Past in Flames, 1 Pyromancer Ascension, 1 Gitaxian Probe
in: 3 Empty the Warrens, 3 Blood Moon

1-2   (3-4)

RD 4 Eight Racks
I lose this one as well. Too much disrupt spells plus multiple copies of the The Rack were enough to hand me my third loss of the night.

1-3   (3-6)

out: 1 Thought Scour, 1 Faithless Looting,
in: 2 Echoing Truth

A very bad day for my ace troop. As my friends say it, this experience is also called MTG Donation.
Php 200, you will surely be missed!

I'll try to do better in my next modern contest.
See you guys in the following modern tournaments this March.

March 12
GPT Modern
Madcap, San Pedro, Laguna

March 13
Regran Open
Regran Hobby Shop, Quezon City

March 19
