April: Ancestral Vision II (modern)

During the weekend of April 9 and 10, Manila saw three Grand Prix Trials. These GPTs were the perfect playgrounds for those Ancestral Vision and Thopter based decks. On the 9th of April we had GPT New York at Blaster Hobby Shop, Paco, Manila and GPT Taipei at HobbyPro Central, BF Homes, ParaƱaque. And on April 10th, GPT Taipei at Friday Quest, Gabbys, Mandaluyong.

I do not have the deck list of all participants from the said three GPTs, only the top three or four placers.

GPT New York
Blaster Hobby Shop, Paco, Manila
UW Tron
Infect
Living End

GPT Taipei
HobbyPro Central, BF Homes, ParaƱaque
Abzan Rhino
Tron
Burn
Ad Naus

GPT Taipei
Friday Quest, Gabbys, Mandaluyong
Living End
Titan ramp Shift
Through the Breach
Burn

From the said list of winners, there was not a single representative from the Ancestral Vision or Thopter decks. Let us not make any early assessment yet. The best is yet to come for them. And when that time comes, I wish you will be ready for the punishment they'll offer.

Anyway, I participated in Friday Quest's GPT Taipei. Judge Ben Ferrer (thank you very much sir) lend me his Grixis Control deck (with a couple of Ancestral Visions in it). I lost my first two games (Through the Breach and Burn) before winning my last three (UR aggro, Elves and Grixis Control). During my first two games, I did not drew the cards I needed. And for the last three games, Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet was superb. Its lifelink was, I think, is just an added bonus. Its the zombie producing triggered ability plus the deck's a ton of removals, that makes Kalitas the "you the real MVP" in this deck.

And before I end this, I hope you will like this list even though you guys rarely see me on control:

April: Ancestral Vision in Modern

Okay, this is going to be a quick one because I am just in a 15 minute break. Let me start with their official announcement, for sure everyone is expecting Eldrazi's number to ebb strikingly, if not a bit. But please do not count those aliens out yet for they can still pack a punch like: they can resolve a turn one Chalice of the Void setting it at one which can still cripple a lot of decks; resolves a turn two Thought Knot-Seer which can, somehow, screw your game plan provided he will exile the precise card from your hand; or they can bin your newly unbanned suspended Ancestral Vision from its obliviousness. And speaking of it, as I see it, this is their (blue base control players) missing link in order for them to be in the deck to beat list.

Anyway, I am not here to tackle what or how will the landscape of modern will look like after the April 4th. Reid Duke already did that in his work. Since there are two modern GPTs this weekend, if I still have the resources, I'll probably bring this list that I have in mind.
