APRIL 2020: IZZET WIZARDS PIONEER

Here are the results of my today's Pioneer gaming over at Untap in.

Notes:

I am still using the list of the Magic Fest Nagoya winner, except for two cards in the sideboard, Izzet Staticaster and Scab-Clan Berserker. I replaced them with two Brazen Borrower / Petty Theft. 

MONO RED AGGRO

He cannot kill Hazoret with shock and bolts. I win. 

BLUE-RED TEMPO

His deck's main offensive engine is headed by Irengrag Pyromancer and Improbable Alliance. His deck's second draw sources are: Royal Scions, Izzet Charm, Jace, Vryn's prodigy, Fevered Visions. 

I almost lost this round because of Irencrag's bolt trigger abilty if not for the timely Wizard's Lightning successfully eliminating it. And since his main source of removal is through fire, Hazoret made it an uphill battle for him. WIN.

BUG

Turn one Deathrite Shaman. I feels like legacy again. 

The theme of his deck was like that of the modern traversing jund deck. I won game one because of speed. 

Game two was different because Uro keeps on giving him 3 life points cushion. 

Game three I  tried to be fast as possibe but he had Fatal Pushes for my small red army. And to make more fun, I got stuck with two mana.

Game three went long. This Izzet Wizard deck is not great in long games. Shock spells are useless top deck cards for it cannot kill fat creatures or planeswalker. Even so, I still did not quit because I wanted to see how his deck really works. 

BUG

The deck loves to bin cards straight from to top of his library to graveyard. Cards like Stitcher Supplier, wayfinder, scrapheap, Creeping Chills, Grisly Salvage, Driven / Despair, Fiend Artisan, and Uro are just some of the things that I can recall.

I won our rubber match because of speed. Three 1/2 prowess + two Crash Throughs + Wizard's Lightnings was to much for his defense to handle. WIN. 

BW

We only played one game. He was able to lock me with the help of mulitple Larrus as companion + Selfless Spirit + and that 1/1 BW creature that says when dealt damage, destroy target non-land permanent. I lost to recurring spirit and four copies of that black cat as his companion. 

BUG

Another uro, chill, Grisly Salvage, stitcher, sultai cards deck. I won two games. It seems that the deck's main engine is anchored on the color blue. Mytical Disputes are my MVP for this game. 

GW with Kaheera (companion)

I lost game two to three Leonin Vanguard, +1/+1 plus lifelink is king. I won game three with a combination of three prowess + burn as removals to his cats. WIN. 

That is all for today. By the way, regarding the Brazens, I do not think they fit well with the team. 

I'll probably replace them with Tormod's Crypt since those kind of BUG decks are getting rampant.
