FEBRUARY: Mono Blue Merfolk

I intend to use UR Storm deck for  H3's event. Unfortunately, I was not able to even sleeve them. The morning of February 3rd, I checked my deck boxes for a ready to play modern deck and find two: Mono Blue Merfolk and Goblin. I picked Team Atlantis; reviewed and tweaked its seventy-five to tailor the meta I expect. While I was in transit, I get the chance to read the tournament report by Roland. It's a very good read for those who are into merfolk because of the valuable insights he gave in each of his round opponent. I noticed that my list is almost similar to his with a handful of differences: in the main deck instead of 2 Watertrap Weavers I am on 2 Kira and an Image; he had Minamo, Oboro, and Caverns, Mutavaults, and Islands. I only had a set of Mutavaults and 15 Islands. And the sideboard, -1 Negate and -2 Dispels for +3 Spell Pierces.

I expected a meta that is full of the following: burn, humans, affinity, and BGx colors. But after playing seven rounds, here were my match-ups.

Win: GB Tron, 2 Eldrazi Tron, and one no show
Loss: UG Infect and Dredge
Draw: Mono White life gain control

My first three opponents were (I think) not that favorable match-up for team Atlantis City: UG Infect (0-2), Mono White Life Gain Control (1-1), and Dredge (0-2). My next four opponents were: GB Tron (2-0), Eldrazi Tron (2-1), a no show-opponent in round sixth, and Eldrazi Tron (2-0). Despite seeing a good number of burn decks around, I did not face not even one.

Notes from H3's event:
- If you are going to concede, be sure that you are fully aware of what archetype your opponent is on. It is very important to know that so you'll know what you're going to do for games two and/ or three.

- Again, always read the F* Card!

- Spell Pierce vs. Dispel. You know what, if I'll just base my answer from this event, I'd say Spell Pierce.

Well that's all for now. Thanks for reading!
